athlon ares btr vs vortex pst gen 2

This is because of the bigger main tube diameter, so the internal parts have more space to move around. If you’re looking for a top rated rifle scope, check out the Argos BTR GEN2 family of rifle scopes.

The Clicks on both rifle scopes feel great, are very positive and audible. Whatsoever, the clicks on Athlon are stronger, so you can easily make 2 or even 3 clicks when you start to turn the turret for only 1 click. The smallest line spacing in the Athlon reticle is 0.2 MIL, what is also very precise, especially because you have a bigger maximum magnification. Also. It definitely got a workout ranging targets from 100 to 1100 yards. I will be using this for Out West Hunting Maybe once a year and occasionally target practice. Both rifle scopes have a downside on the elevation turret because they don’t have a good visible turn indicator. The warranty on both products in Europe is 10 years, but both manufacturers advertise a lifetime warranty. Vortex won against Athlon in the optical comparison with 93 points against only 35. I'm impressed with scope and it is a step up from the Midas BTR that I have. Hope this is the one your intrested in. That rifle is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I talk to Athlon guys with reasonable regularity and the production Ares is not yet here (soon though). No matter what happens, if your optics fail, the company will fix or replace your scope. The turrets are by far the biggest down fall of The Ares although they edge out most of the Leupolds I've owned or shot. Well I've owned a Burris XTR II 5-25x30, Leupold VX-6 4-24x52 and Sig Tango 4 6-24x50 all within the last 3 months. After we are sure that the test can be done without preferations we ask our volunteers to test the following parameters: Central sharpness – subjective impression at 5x, 15x and 25x, Edge sharpness – subjective impression at 5x, 15x and 25x, FOV – subjective impression at 5x, 15x and 25x. Now i did see this add for the Athlon Ares 4,5x27x50 for $849.99 and figured id share it with you. Both rifle scopes have an adjustable parallax, so you can easily focus on targets at different distances. The untrained or inexperienced eye won't notice a difference. i havent had time to shoot it yet. Normally 27 MIL is more than enough for extreme long range shooting, even if you don’t have a canted mount. After using testing and enjoying the clear XD glass and fantastic eye relief of the Ares BTR I couldn’t accept anything less for my LRS rifles! It's hard to find any real information on this company online yet. Athlon has also a longer eye relief, what is very nice if you use it on a strong recoiling rifle.

Also the price is very similar, the MSRP of Vortex is 1579€ and 1679€ of Athlon. In this article, we tested optical properties with 8 volunteers, which have no experiences with tactical scopes and have no bias towards any of these two brands. It's not a Swarovski and it's not any where near the scopes in the $2-$3k scopes. He is doing a gun show today but didn't have any Ares line scopes yet.

For this vortex many additional accessories are available, like flip-up covers, neoprene cover, throw lever and so on. What do I look for in a scope?-price -Scope Tracks true and returns to zero -FFP -Quality glass -light weight -appropriate reticle -magnification (IMO 4-24x is perfect power range) -aesthetically pleasing. In the box of Athlon are even fewer accessories. Athlon Ares ETR has a bigger main tube diameter, and as you could expect, Vortex is for 150 grams lighter in weight than it’s competitor. For tactical-style shooting, the user normally doesn’t need such a big magnification, but for extreme long range or shooting very small targets it is highly recommended. Cost is right around $850 and you get a solid ffp scope that weighs 27 oz. Vortex named their reticle EBR-2C MRAD and Athlon APRS1 FFP IR MIL. Very helpful. I'm trying to decide between a Tango4 and PST Gen 2. It's shoots exceptionally well. It tracked true, returned to zero and had a lot of folks impressed with the glass quality and features. Thanks again! The Argos is a great scope and better than my Vortex Viper PST 1st edition! Whatsoever, the clicks on the Athlon are harder to turn, so it can’t happen that you accidentally turn the turret when carrying the rifle. The reticles used in both rifle scopes are already known, because both company’s use them also in their most expensive rifle scopes. The turrets are exposed for quick elevation and windage adjustments. Vortex Viper PST Gen. 2 5-25×56 rifle scope comes with a 3-inch sunshade, a battery for the illumination, a lens cloth, the manual, and a cheap bikini-style cover.

Athlon Ares BTR 4.5-27x50. Turrets are still the weak point. Both elevation turrets have also a zero stop function, so the turret stops at 0 (or your preferred position) when you dial it back. If anyone is considering a Athlon scope pm me and I'll send you contact info for the dealer I used. It's heads above the Burris XTR II, Sig Tango 4, Steiner Tx5i and both Bushnells. Shoots the same groups. I prefer a very tactile, loud and positive turret. I am looking into getting a scope for a rifle and was reading on this and that scope and watching YouTube videos for reviews also and came across this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hC1CPPcGxm4  This is not the only video on this for these scopes and other brands as well. Optically this Vortex can easily compete also with much more expensive rifle scopes. All your photos aren't available. The picture is much wider in Vortex on same magnifications, but because Athlon features a smaller minimal magnification, it has a wider field of view on the lowest magnification. Features: HD Glass, FFP, Advanced Fully Multi-coated, True Zero Stop, Illuminated Reticle, 30mm Tube, 10MIL/25MOA Travel-Per-Rotation Turrets. Pretty much all of the nightforces are 9-10's. What I find is great on both rifle scopes is that in one revolution, you have exactly 10 MIL (100 clicks) of adjustment, so you can’t go wrong when you are over 100 clicks. Both manufacturers offer 2 reticle options for these rifle scopes, one is in MIL and one in MOA. Am I missing anything?

Just my opinion. Weight goes to the Athlon at 27.5 oz vs 32 oz for the Viper. This is meant for tactical-style competitions, where the shooter has to quickly engage targets at various distances. The clicks on both rifle scopes are really great and are better then I expected.

As soon as you said 7LRM I knew who you were. I prefer the Ares. Because both rifle scopes are designed for tactical-style shooting, the reticle in both is positioned in the first focal plane. Both rifle scopes have a fixed eye-relief, what is great for more comfortable shooting. Steiner and Burris use the same glass BTW. The lock mechanism works with a push and pull design, what is very easy and comfortable to use. The minimal parallax adjustment on both rifle scopes is 25 yards or 23 meters, which is very close for rifle scopes with such a big magnification.

I just assumed they were a cheap Chinese scope with crappy internals and great glass so I passed. I received a free sun shade, scope caps and a throw lever! What I’ve noticed on Athlon’s elevation turret is also that the clicks are somehow nicer when you go with the elevation backwards. The turrets controls on the Viper also get the nod. Still waiting on society to goto hell to use em for survival!! The turrets are always matched with the reticle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hC1CPPcGxm4. Thanks for the awesome review! It was easily better optically than some vortex scopes I paid twice that amount for. Thats a nice set of rings, a good bubble level and some ammo!! The first one is the, Whatsoever, in one category Athlon scored more points than Vortex, and this is in the inner reflections. Also Athlon is going the same way because they use the same reticle in their best tactical rifle scope, the Cronus BTR.

Oh, and their box looked "identical" to the Styrka brand I asked about here about a month ago. For shooting at lower light, the user can adjust the brightness of the illumination on each rifle scope. It has a bigger field of view at the same magnifications, better sharpness, and a better eye-box. A small advantage from Vortex EBR-2C over the Athlon APRS1 reticle is in the ranging lines, which are on 3 places in Vortex, but nowhere in Athlon.

Both rifle scopes can be adjusted also to infinity range, but for me personally, the parallax adjustment is much better on the Vortex because the space between 100 yards and infinity is much bigger, so you can adjust the parallax much easier and more precise. When you turn the elevation turret backwards, the clicks feel even better on Athlon. Here Vortex scores again because it has 10 brightness settings and Athlon only 6. The APRS1 reticle from Athlon has a small dot in the middle, and the EBR-2C reticle from Vortex has an open center. There will always be lemons and Vortex and Athlon have proven their customer service will take care of you promptly.

Only downside is the field of view is significantly smaller than a better quality scope. This rifle scope comes only with a battery for the illumination, a lens cloth, and the instructions manual. I'm getting 3066 fps from 180 Hornady ELDM bullets. Vortex Viper PST GEN 2 Viper PST 5-25x50. I firmly believe everyone's eyes are different but I also believe quality glass speaks for its self. It looked VERY impressive to me for the price point. He's a stand-up guy that got me two Ares scopes when one of them was completely sold out. I realize that getting hands on either of these scopes right now, particularly the Athlon, is a chore. This means, after you did that, you are 10 MIL off the target.
