It’s undeniable that the extreme humanity of The Chosen’s characters are what make the series more than a run-of-the-mill Bible drama. There’s no question that a lot of hard work was put into making this first season, and it shows in nearly every aspect of it. and Theaters. After being spit on, John and Big James demand that Jesus let them call down fire on the Samaritans, but Jesus tells them that their work is for future generations. These Bible characters are no longer “heroes of the faith”–they are imperfect people with backstories, motives, flashbacks, and personality tendencies just like us. I just finished watching the commentary to episode 5 and was devastated to hear that you will not likely be doing a flashback to the baptism of Jesus and this show has given me such a closer relationship with Jesus that I would hate to see such an integral part of the story of Jesus missing from the show entirely. Though camera work can be a bit shaky at times, much like the former half, there are virtually no other production flaws to note here. Acting Quality (3 points)With virtually the same cast from episodes one through four plus others who add more life than there already was, the acting of episodes five through eight does not waver from its previously perfect score. I’ve not seen anything that comes close to the quality of writing and acting in this production. The use of flashbacks to build character motive and backstory is also highly effective in helping us understand where they’re coming from and why they do what they do; this is often a missing ingredient in most depictions of Bible characters.
