midland mxt400 mods

... That is an interesting report. I can't say whether or not that 1/2 DB difference between the two antennas makes that much difference. Midland thank you for finally creating a decent user friendly GMRS TYPE ACCEPTED radio. Hello! Reviews are not too bad on eHam and amazon.

The only and I mean only little fuss I have with the 400 is I would like the ability to change the screen color.

Seems that it is CB-frequency SWR meter. (Thumbs up).

Don’t forget your FCC license! Most gmrs repeaters out there are wide band ( GMRS is Wide Band not narrow), so you have some problems there!

Unfortunate that it is not FULLY compatible with existing wideband equipment. In trying to answer this question, I returned to a post from @Hans in 2018 in a discussion which suggests the MXT400 is really a Luiton LT-590 with modified settings for GMRS certification.

What I mean is the MXT-400 from the factory are at transmitting at 12.5khz, you can change them to a band within GMRS like 20khz. The issue is it does not receive on wide band. I'm still testing on which antenna gives the best performance. So, more information would be much appreciated. I wanted a radio that had high watts, because there are times when we are overlanding that I want that extra power for further range. There is an option for voice scrambling, but it is disabled (and not allowed in GMRS), There is an Optional Signaling option that is also disabled (DTMF,  2TONE & 5Tone). This radio blew my mind the first time I used it. Both antennas pick them up. They could also do it through the menu and make the RP light flash when WB mode is selected. It looks like it is written by the same OEM company that manufactures the MXT400 for Midland.

Not sure they can properly do 11K0F3E now.

AA5CT Ham Member QRZ Page. I could see differences in SWR and quality. You can name each channel. Very impressive radio. Thank you for your comment. I like it, I'm having fun. So far it seems the radio receives a little better with the Midland antenna. The MXTA11 almost seems like it would be in a bubble pack hanging in the truck stop. This is the manuals page for Midland. Views: 1601 Score: 0. link: link without replies: more; In Your Face: Portland Cop Pulls Off Gas Mask. I suspect people are using the DCS codes vs the CTCSS codes where you look at the manual and cross reference the privacy code to the frequency you must select under CTCSS.

But up on the range the question is who is going to be on the other end of one of those channels?".

Yes; narrowbanding didn't affect the GMRS radio service (so many ppl assume it did, apparently). I'll put the MXT antenna back on for tomorrow see what I get. Note that there is a limit to the number of files you can download.

Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth. Please see the attached photograph. Some are switching over to narrow band.

NOTE: 25KHz not legal on gmrs anymore. I have a DB413 on a tower that has been there for more than 20 years and it's still doing great. I prefer the dipole array for base & repeater operation.

of course they wouldn't!

Most forums are open for your viewing. Once I was talking to my granddaughter about their cats, she got all fired up and the audio was GREAT!!! Even though the audio is VERY clear and the signal is strong there is a reduced audio level on our end (base/repeater). I was about to order a 1500.00 repeater, lucky for me I read that post about narrow band. no problem talking simplex with the same type radios, But, not good with repeaters! You can change from FMN narrow 12.5KHz to FM wide 20KHz or 25KHz. Good rig.

Maybe NB to NB has more range, like SSB? You can change from FMN narrow 12.5KHz to FM wide 20KHz or 25KHz. With the Midland software already installed, I then downloaded the Luiton software.

We are working on a couple new MicroMobile radios that will be compatible with current accessories and power sources. Channels 1-7  are 5 WATTS and Channels 15-22 can be adjusted from 5 WATTS to 22 WATTS to 40 WATTS. After a license expires, an individual must request a new GMRS license. If these radios are in fact narrow band only, It would have been nive for Midland to have stated that!

The other frequencies you will find are locked on all other channels. Like many chicom radios, they are apparently made by the same factory, and branded under multiple names. My TH-9000d works well.

As a result some of us with newer radios get audio clipping when we receive the repeater. I was able to talk to a friend with another MXT400 who was over 10 miles away in a decently wooded area. If it is SDR then it is math unless it is burned into a chip. For a better experience, please enable JavaScript in your browser before proceeding. Custom start message such as your call sign, Programming of split CTCSS/ DPL. I never thought of that axorlov, good point. Any doubt that the MXT400 is a Luiton LT-590 on Prosac have been removed. The question is, do they have a WB filter in the RX path? Thanks. CRACKED …

I would very much recommend the MXT400. Hello! He runs on Medium power and makes a great connection with our base/repeater. One of the reviews stated privacy codes did not work. One thing I did notice though, with the Midland antenna, even with the power on low, when I keyed the mic the radios meter would always show all the way up like full power. MXT400 Programming software:  https://www.dropbox....p_1.05.zip?dl=1, CABLE: USB to 3.5mm stereo connection programming cable :https://www.rtsystem...able_p_748.html. I want to get a mobile unit ASAP and I want something that I can easily program from my computer (ideally chirp) and is also easy to use. Now the difference in DB gain is the DPD is 5.5, and the MXTA11 is 6DB gain.

Some repeaters have different tones for input and output. It would be odd that Midland would be freely releasing software to violate the FCC type acceptance of this radio. While we don’t offer one, a purpose built base antenna is better suited for fixed antenna installations. Please re-enable javascript to access full functionality. Hello!

Interested in their mobile line up, esp the 115 due to price/repeater capability. I installed this under my Cobra 29LX in my P71 Interceptor  with custom fabricated brackets........(I have to take a pic and post it here). He talked to a man named Roger at Midland and he emailed a Zip file with the software, so maybe there is help for at least the Midland MXT-400. Re: Midland MXT400 (GMRS Radio) I think in going out as a group it is always good to have multiple forms of communications (not for between vehicle) in the event there is an emergency. It is small, light weight, and well built.

rescue161 KE4FHH. BLM DESTROYS STORE OWNED BY BLM SUPPORTER . It is starting to look better though.

If the reason that most people get the Midland is because they want an "out of the box, Part 95 legal radio" - then opening up the radio to a 25 kHz bandwidth (which the Midland isn't type accepted for) kind of kills the whole rational they started with. I just thought after reading about all the pitfalls of the MXT 400, that the information would prove beneficial if anyone would want to try and correct the problems inherent from the factory on the Midland MXT-400. You can use different receive and transmit CTCSS/DCS on each channel. It is interesting that note the LT-590 and TH-9000(d) UHF versions are not available on Amazon and it is unknown if they will become available. I would recommend this as a good mobile unit. Anybody else running the MXT400............? So far, the Midland MXTA11 "seems" to perform just a tad better then the DPD antenna....(all though I like the all black DPD look). LOL. With 40 Watts of broadcasting power, this radio is the most powerful GMRS radio made by Midland. I'm still testing on which antenna gives the best performance. (Previously tuned to GMRS frequencies. Midland 2-Way Radio Bundle — Model# MXT400VP3. Then you have that pesky modulation fidelity to be optimized for 16K0F3E. Demolition Goes Wrong in Nepal. The repeater channels on the MXT400 (only) are wide band compatible by default. The Luiton LT-590 is also available from TYT as the TYT TH-9000d, a Part 90 UHF radio.
